Tour of California – Women’s Time Trial (TT) invite!

Folks! I’m honored to announce that I will be racing the Tour of California (TOC) Women’s Time Trial on May 17th in San Jose, California! This is a very special invite, as only 15 women are selected each year from the ranks of Olympians, world champions, national champions, and champions of other prestigious cycling events. I’m even more excited to be racing along side my teammate, Jade Wilcoxson, who was also selected (she was also selected and raced last year!)

Debut race @ the Merco Cycling Classic and race food!

Leah, Amber, Lauren, Annie and I (along with our rock-star staff: Rachel, Mike and Jeremy) headed down to sunny Merced, CA for the MERCO Cycling Classic (aka Merco CC)! Merco CC is one of the longest, running classics here in the U.S. at 20 years- and, man, can you feel the love and the support for this classic locally! Every morning, a different article was published in the local paper about the race, with a big focus on the increased popularity of women’s racing!

Professional Bike FIT and my first race with OPTUM p/b KBS!

I’m back in PDX for a week…then off to Merced, CA for my first race with OPTUM p/b KBS- the MERCO Cycling Classic!

I’m super pumped to be racing with my new teammates- equal parts nervous and excited at the same time.  I’m really lucky to have the support of our seasoned riders to guide me along the way. The best advice I’ve received for my first few races (thanks Jade!): be aggressive and confident- even though it’s my first year pro- stay near front and work hard, ask lots of questions (no question is dumb) and remember to HAVE FUN!

OPTUM pro cycling p/b KBS training camp…it’s like summer camp but for adult PRO athletes!

Phew!!! That was fun!  Training camp has come to an end…and I’m looking forward to my well-deserved rest day!  On the 5th of February, I headed south for some warm weather training with my new team and soon-to-be second family. Ten days of equal parts training/skills time and team bonding in Oxnard, CA and the surrounding areas of Ventura County (including Malibu and Santa Barbara Canyons!). Our stellar team director, Rachel Heal, managed to keep us crazies organized, on track, training and fueling our souls for the 2013 season.

VO2 max, Lactic Threshold and Functional Power Testing! Keep it spicy!

If you’re like me, testing sounds scary….I’ve always avoided the subject, whether it involves my health or education…YIKES! Sometimes it’s better not to know, right? I decided it might not be a bad idea to check out my “cycling fitness” via VO2 MAX, Lactic Threshold (LT) and Functionality Power Threshold (FTP) testing. I like to think of the results as kind of like a benchmark to help determine training “Zones” and not an “end-all” something to fixate over or dictate and label what kind of a rider one is
